Easy to make initial booking through the website, but the actual time spent at the Alamo desk as they tried to upsell etc was a bit of a pain.

The switch for the lights which is usually around the steering wheel was located elsewhere, had problems finding the switch the first time I needed the lights. Would have been an advantage if someone had given a short introduction of where everything was located on the car.

We were disappointed in the car as it had completed 55,000 or so miles and had a banging noise somewhere underneath the car which may have been a flap rubbing against the tyres but it was a bit disconcerting driving it. We thought the car was well past its rent by date! Also the Alamo rep was quite aggressive in trying to sell us an upgrade, extra insurance and arguing with us about the state of the fuel on return - we said we would bring the car back full but he pushed hard to try and make us take their option at their fuel price which we declined.

Collecting the car after the long direct flight from Heathrow was a breeze. The staff at Alamo were very friendly and the process didn't take long at all. After going to the parking lot we had a choice of cars. We selected a Hyundai Elantra because it had satellite radio and a connector for iPhones. We could have had any number of different models from a VW Jetta to a Nissan Juke. Unfortunately on our first night in Phoenix someone dented the car in the Hilton hotel car park and didn't leave a note. When we returned the car I pointed out the dent and the agent got me to sign a form stating what had happened. If I hadn't pointed out the dent I don't think he would have pursued it. So far I haven't heard anything from Alamo but the agent said that our CDW would cover it - so fingers crossed. We were very happy with our choice of car although we did have to buy an air freshener as the interior was a bit pungent. This is the second time I've used Alamo and US Car Hire and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use them again. It is so hassle free having paid in advance in the UK and to not have to deal with agents trying to sell you extra insurance or a larger car.

After a very long day - the pick up experience with Alamao was not ideal, especially as I had done all the pre booking detail. The Alamo desk staff was not at all helpful once he knew that everything had been prepaid in advance through US Car Hire. Still tried to sell additional insurance etc. Only directed to selection of car - several choices, however NOBODY offered any assistance in car selection or operation etc. Customer service was overall very poor & personnel generally rude. Expected more help - particularly as we were in the USA & totally different to UK . Car functioned ok, but midway through rental oil change message continuously displayed. Amazed that routine service / maintenance does not occur prior to rental. THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD MAKE ME CHOOSE ALAMO AGAIN IS THEIR PRICING. THEIR SUPPORT WAS VERY POOR..
