The car hire service was very simple and user friendly. The few concerns we had were; when we arrived, there were not many vehicles to choose from. We ordered an economy compact vehicle, and all the cars available seemed huge! More like 4 door saloons. We had to wait for around an hour for a car to show that we felt was small enough (the ford focus still isn't what we'd consider to be a small car in the UK). Either way, the focus was very good. Another thing that worried us was that we were never told what type of fuel the car required. Upon being in the US for over 2 weeks, it now seems fairly obvious. But upon just arriving in the country, it required research on the net, and even a small amount of guesswork to find this out. Even attendants at gas stations didn't really know what I was talking about when I spoke of ethanol levels. In future I believe that vehicle fuel type should be stated clearly on the vehicle. Another problem we had was when the engine oil light came on. We had to drive to Alamo in Las Vegas to ask about this and we were required to change our car. Whilst this was done smoothly, it was still an inconvenience, and affected our plans for that day (we were driving all the way to Yosemite). When changing our car, there were only 2 compact cars available (both huge). We asked if there were any smaller cars, and instead were given an upgrade for a bigger car. Luckily there was another focus in the intermediate section. Overall the service was very good, and drop off at LAX was very quick and easy. However small criticisms consist of choice of cars and ensuring cars are fully serviced and checked before being given to customers (I.e. engine oil).

Alamo tried to rip us off when we got Orlando. The car we booked online said it had room for 2 suitcases but when we got there they told us it would only hold 1 so they said we should upgrade to a bigger car. We did not! They said it would be cheaper to return the car empty. This was also a lie and worked out $15 dearer! You are better to return it full! When we got to the car the boot fitted 3 of our bag! but more over the people at the car collection point said we could have any car at no extra cost, this included mini vans! SO READ THIS AND BEWARE!! Dont be ripped of by Alamo when you get there!

Alamo transport from airport to car pick up was was prompt and staff at rental office efficient. Same for returning car at end of rental.

Prompt customer service when I decided to change car class. At Jackson Hole Alamo processed everything quickly, though they didn't have the kiosk, so I could have saved some time filling everything on-line. Nice car in top configuration. Absolutely positive experience with nothing to complain about.

Car had intermittent fault with electronic doors said to staff when returned car staff very helpful returned my fuel deposit have used this company a few times and never really had any problems would recommend and will use again

As always, the ordering process was easy and efficient, once the glitch had been fixed that resulted in no cars showing for New York JFK (again, this was dealt with in a quick and efficient manner). I was particularly impressed with National's new USA system that permits you to choose any car from a line-up of those of the size ordered. This allowed us to select one with an appropriately-sized boot for 4 people on a road-trip.

As usual the Alamo "porter" wanted to help us and took us to the next grade up of car. I'm used to this and gave a tip that was less than the it's to upgrade. The kiosk check in took slightly longer than I thought as I hadn't printed out the correct data to scan.

I had to change the return airport of the car from JFK to Laguardia and the clerk at National's front desk in JFK helped me do it, with no additional cost for returning the car at a different location.
