Our First Day in Orlando - Orlando / Florida Guide

After months of anticipation and planning we are finally waking up for our first day at our villa. I am never sure whether it is jet lag or sheer excitement but it is unusual for any of the family to sleep after 6. 00am.
If fact one year when my Mother and I both woke at 4. 00am we quickly got ready and went to our nearest Walmart which is only a mile away and returned to the villa before the others woke up!
The pool always brings great excitement and before venturing out for breakfast most of our party plunge in. This is a great way to relax and unwind after spending most of the previous day cramped up in a plane.
Then off for breakfast the first day always has to be at an All U Can Eat restaurant and our current favourite is Shoneys although sometimes we go to Golden Coral.
We usually have Hopper Tickets for the Parks so we will have already planned our first day. Last year after breakfast we headed straight to Animal Kingdom which is less than 10 minutes from the villa and is often the quietest Park. With careful planning it is possible to do quite a lot in Animal Kingdom in half a day.
We then went onto Hollywood Studios as Fantasmic was on later in the evening, no matter how many times I see this show I never fail to enjoy it. With careful planning we also managed to get Fastpasses for Toy Story Mania which is of my Mother’s favourite rides. Mid afternoon we stopped for a drink and a burger.
It is all too easy to give way to tiredness early on the first night but if you go to bed early evening you only wake up at some ridiculously early time the next day! With that in mind when we left Hollywood Studios we headed off to Downtown Disney. There are so many shops here to keep everyone alert and needless to say the younger ones love to play in the Lego Shop. The Disney Shop also keeps them (and us) occupied for some time.
Finally we began to flag and become hungry. We headed off to the Earl of Sandwich and although you cannot make reservations it did not take us long to get served. Between us we had the Italian hot sandwich made up with salami, capicola, roasted ham, mortadella, mozzarella cheese and Italian dressing and the Caribbean Jerk Chicken Sandwich of grilled chicken, roasted red and hot banana peppers with a spicy jerk sauce.
Suitably fed we returned to the villa ready just to fall into our beds.
