Having told you about our first holiday in Florida, I thought I would share with you our first villa holiday.
We had had a great first holiday in Florida, oh yes we did. But being confined to a hotel room was not so great. Kids fighting, a parent snoring, nocturnal visits to the loo, terribly noisy air conditioning; Mmm!
Then we heard that you could rent a home to stay in; now that sounded better. And the surprising thing was that you could get a whole house for about the same as a hotel room. So that clinched it.
Flights got booked with free car hire( and here is where I confess that we were still not really clued up because our ' free' car came with a largeish bill at pick up. What for, we asked, ' oh, a free car does not have insurance and you have to have it) Lesson learned. We chose a 3 bedroom home that had all we would have expected and much more, although in those days many homes did not have pools and ours did not.
Well, when we arrived, we could not believe it! A fresh and comfortable home with the biggest bed I had ever seen and and an American freezer to die for.
A quick dash to the nearest shop for supplies, a quick snack and we were in bed.
And in the morning, we could not wait to go to the newly opened Epcot. Well we all loved it and my slightly geeky son loved it more. We could have spent a week there.
For the rest of the time we re visited the parks, went to the Gulf Coast Beaches, shopped a lot and simply enjoyed the space and privacy the villa afforded.
We did not feel impelled to be out and about every moment so we chilled out a lot in the villa and on the deck and saved a bundle on our last visit.
The car gave us so much more freedom than using a shuttle and we did not have the daily terror of missing the last bus!
At the end of our holiday, like everyone has said in their time, once you have stayed in a villa you would never stay in a hotel again.
And so it came to pass that after 2 more wonderful villa holidays we bought our own and so the "circle of life" of villa ownership continues!
