Rolling Oaks Common (part 2) - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Shopping

Rolling Oaks Commons is a fast developing retail area located at the Orange Lake junction of the US192.

It is home to a great Super Target store and many smaller retail outlets. Rumoured future expansion plans include more retail with several larger anchor stores and a multi screen cinema, but our main reason for visiting is definitely the great selection of restaurants.

On one side of the development are Bahama Breeze, Longhorn Steak House, Olive Garden and Sweet Tomatoes. Just across the junction you will find an Applebee’s and a Millers Ale house.

Sweet Tomatoes

A good quality buffet style restaurant - not just for vegetarians.

When you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a huge salad bar. First there are a selection of tossed salads of various kinds (some of these do contain meat but they are clearly labelled. Then there is a huge selection of just about every ingredient you have ever thought to include in a salad and some you probably never even considered. Pile your plate as high as you want or even take two if you wish nobody is going to complain.

Once you finished your salad course take your pick from the bakery area where you will find a good selection of homemade soups, usually around six, chilli, freshly cooked pasta in varying sauces, freshly baked pizza slices and garlic bread slices.

They also have baked sweet and regular potatoes, home made corn bread, various muffins, freshly baked cookies and hot desserts along with an ice cream bar with all the toppings and a fresh fruit counter.

Whilst Sweet Tomatoes does not offer fine dining it certainly offers a good selection of well prepared fresh ingredients at a very reasonable price and I’ll defy anyone to leave hungry.

Applebee’s

Applebee’s are a chain of sports bars in the same vein as TGI Friday’s.

Serving up a good selection of steaks, ribs, chicken, pastas, seafood and burgers in a lively friendly atmosphere and at very reasonable prices. There’s something for all the family here.

Fiesta Lime Chicken, Cowboy Burger, Sizzling Cajun Steak and Shrimp are particular favourites but all the menu selections we have tried have been good.
Beer and house cocktails are nearly always by one get one free is happy hours.

Applebee’s have a two can eat for $20 offer; choose one starter and two mains (full size portions). The choice is limited but it is great value.

Millers Ale House

Millers are a chain of over fifty restaurants with several in the Orlando area. The Alehouse is a sports bar / restaurant with 3 distinct seating areas. There is a choice of booth or high top table seating inside or you can sit outside.

The restaurant has a very large seating capacity of almost 500 and over 60 HD TV’s arranged around the outside of the seating areas. It can get busy and lively but has a great atmosphere!

Millers offer daily specials with Mondays being a personal favourite for the fall off the bone ribs – fantastic.

Other equally good selections include prime rib, jambalaya, seafood pasta, lobster, etc all were good and excellent value for money.

We also sampled the pitchers of beer as well as the soft drinks and found them, to be good value too. You won’t be stuck to find something you like to drink when they have 99 varieties of beer on offer not forgetting the spirits and cocktails as well.

Rolling Oaks commons is a welcome addition to the area and well worth a visit.
