Tubing down the Rainbow River is a truly wonderful experience and well worth the rather long drive from the Parks area. It is about 2 hours north of Tampa and north of Dunellan.
An awesome 460 millions of gallons of water flows from the headsprings every day. There are only 4 larger such springs in whole of Florida and only 8 larger in the world.
Like all the springs the temperature is a consistent 72 degrees all through the year which is quite comfortable once your warm body has adjusted.
You start your day by hiring tubes either from the park (2 hour float) or at the K. P. Hole Country Park (4 hour float)

Now you will enjoy one of the most serene and peacefull experiences of your life as you float gently down the river with the sun on your face and natures best all around you. Remember to apply high factor sun screen liberally before you start your float.
The water is crystal clear and mostly you can seee right down to the river bed. You may well see families of turtles basking on a cypress tree trunk and you may also see an otter family.
Two to four hours later you will have reached your final destination and you can take the transport back to the beginning. You will feel so chilled out now that you can barely speak.
You will be surely ready for something to eat now and after you have taken your fill why not take a walk round Rainbow Springs and admire the waterfall, the butterfly garden and the flora and fauna for which it is justly famous This is such a pretty park. If you have enetered via the park you can just show your ticket and enter free of charge.
It is best to avoid friday to sunday as these days are busy and indeed if you have chosen to enter for the longer float the car park sometimes becomes full
You may want to prepare to stay overnight rather than attempt the long trip home and you will easily be able to book into a motel near by
