Showcase of Citrus - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Places to Visit
If you were asked to name 3 things that you associate with Florida, there’s a fair chance that apart from sunshine and theme parks you’d mention freshly squeezed orange juice or the groves where they grow.
So next time you visit Florida, why not take time out of your hectic schedule and take a trip to Showcase of Citrus and see what makes Florida fruit taste just so delicious? Located at 5010 US Highway 27 Clermont FL 34714 you’ll find the home of this 2500 acre working citrus and cattle ranch. Entry is free and all ages are welcomed.
Here you can pick your own selection of fruits depending on season, all grown without the use of pesticides etc. Old favourites, oranges and grapefruit and more exotic ones like kumquat, with more than 50 varieties there’s sure to be new ones waiting to be discovered. The farm is laid out with many paths and bridges over the river, so you can easily spend a few hours strolling through and picking the odd piece of fruit as you explore. Bags can be mixed so you don’t have to have all one variety. A mixed bag averages around $10. If you have children it’s a perfect way for them to see how and where the fruit comes from and pick them from the tree.
For those that prefer not to pick their own, the on site Country store has all you could want, ready to buy, with locally grown sauces, pickles, jams and jellies; fresh eggs from the organically grown chickens. Ready prepared meals , all grown organically and prepared without additives or preservatives are available to buy by the pound so if you want a home cooked meal without the fuss then pick some up to take back home and heat.
But don’t be misled by the name, there’s a whole lot more to the Showcase of Citrus than fruit trees.
If the children groan at the thought of what sounds suspiciously like an educational trip bundled with a healthy dose of fruit at the end of it, maybe they will change their minds at the sight of the monster truck eco-tours held here? Tours need to be scheduled and paid separately, but the monster truck, equipped with air ride suspension; takes you through beautiful citrus groves, upland Palmetto, Oak and Pine Scrub habitat, cattle pastures and wooded swamps––the head waters to the Everglades Watershed, and gives an experience not to be missed. Don’t forget the camera to take pictures of the many varieties of wildlife and plants and see how many you can name.
Visitors are welcomed to used the fishing dock and lake, rods are available to borrow free of charge if you don’t have your own with you.
