Cracker Barrel Restaurant - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Dining

I have to admit that for a long time we would drive past Cracker Barrel as we were not entirely sure what exactly it actually was! It is advertised as a ‘Country Store’ which made us think that it was more of a shop than a restaurant. It is actually both – and a fantastic place to eat, shop and chill out.

Cracker Barrel is a chain brand and you will find many branches of them around and abut the Disney Area. They are open throughout the day and are great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They do daily specials as well as seasonal menus at times like Xmas and Thanksgiving – their Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner is fantastic!

As you approach the store you will see a large porch which is home to the famous Cracker Barrel rocking chairs. They come in natural wood or traditional white painted finishes and would look adorable on anyone’s porch or veranda. We couldn’t resist buying a couple for the garden at our villa and they are wonderful for chilling out on at the end of a busy day.

On entering the store you are greeted with a beautiful array of homewares, decorative objects and gifts. You feel as though you have stepped back in time as the shop is themed like a country barn with scrubbed wooden floors and bits of farm machinery hanging up on the vaulted ceiling. There is lively country music in the background creating a great atmosphere.

The restaurant is pretty basic looking with simple wooden tables and chairs and the menu is very homely with home style eats for different meal choices. It is table service and the service is very efficient and friendly. The choice is huge and everything is freshly cooked to order which makes a nice change from the endless buffet style meals that abound in Orlando.

Breakfast treats include Hickory Smoked Country Ham, Grits, Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits and Sawmill Gravy. For those of you who like me, love pancakes while in the USA why not try buttermilk pancakes which come loaded with pecans, mouth-watering Wild Maine Blueberries, or can be covered with a variety of toppings -- from golden delicious apples to cherries or peaches. Whatever you choose, the portions are very generous and the prices are really competitive.

The lunch menu consists of country classics like Meatloaf, Chicken n’ Dumplings, Roast Beef and plenty of tasty country vegetables. This, together with sandwiches, salads and grilled meats, ensures that there’s something for everyone.

On every table you’ll find the famous Cracker Barrel peg game – a puzzle which will keep kids – and adults alike – happy for hours. Why not take the challenge.

Driving up to Cracker Barrel on our first day back in Florida really makes us feel that we in a home from home.
