Located in the historic city of St Augustine and just a couple of hours drive from Orlando what could be a better way of spending an afternoon than taking one of the complimentary tours of the winery and also have the chance of tasting the wines as well.
San Sebastian Winery was founded in 1996 and the wines produced here are amongst the very best of Floridian wines. Situated at King Street a few blocks away from historic downtown St Augustine. The winery produces various red and white wines, a rosa, Blanc De Fleur being the sparkling wine as well as a Port and a Cream Sherry. The Winery has won over 250 awards so far.
The complimentary tours and wine tasting last for approximately forty five minutes and they are offered seven days a week Monday – Saturday 10a. m. to 6p. m. and Sunday, 11a. m. to 6. pm.
When you arrive at the winery you will be greeted by one of the friendly staff who will take you on a tour of the whole wine making process. A short film is also shown and then onto the guided tours itself. You will see the bottling line and also the sparkling wine production area. You will also learn about the 5, 000 gallon stainless steel tanks where the wine is fermented and stored prior to it being bottled.
Finally, then comes the wine tasting itself you will be taken through how to taste, savor and then enjoy a selection of their wines. You can then visit the onsite shop where you will have the chance to purchase some of their wines, other gifts as well as various gift baskets are available to purchase.
Finally why not go upstairs to ‘The Cellar Upstairs’ which is a wine and Jazz bar. There is an outdoor upstairs covered bar area or you can sit at the tables on the open –air deck and take in the spectacular views. The ‘Cellar Upstairs’ is open Friday at 4pm and Saturday and Sunday at noon. Live music from such bands as ‘The Committee’, ‘Beautiful Bobby’ Blackmon and the B3 Blues Band. The live music is normally on from 2p. m. to 5p. m. and 7p. m. to 11p. m. and a full schedule of the bands that are due to play can be found on the winery web site.
While you listen to the live jazz music why not order an appetizer there is a choice of: Baguette with Dipping Oil, Bistro Cheese Platter, Bistro Meat & Cheese Platter or the Gourmet New York Cheesecake drizzled with San Sebastian Port and whipping cream.
There is so much to do in St Augustine why not spend a couple of hours at the Winery – you might even come away with a bottle or two of your favourites wines to drink while you are relaxing back at your villa.
