Friday Fish Fry a must!! - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Dining
We have been new fans of the Cracker Barrel chain of restaurants for only about 2 years now, and though following a family rule of we will eat in different restaurants everyday, well trying to, you can’t help returning to a favourite.
On a recent trip, our first visit to our local, and so far our favourite, Cracker Barrel on the H27 just South of the Deen Still traffic lights, just happened to be on a Friday. So being a fan of Cod and chips my husband decided he would have the “Friday Fish Fry”. It was such a success we returned for our second Friday! ! Our observation, and top tip from this visit was that as this was the meal of the day, apart from being absolutely fantastic food , and amazing value for money, if you chose to have the dish of the day, the speed of the service was absolutely second to none! ! Served with enough cod and large fries to feed 2, in my opinion, you also get a large pot of their homemade coleslaw, which is delicious! !
We watched in amazement as the tables were cleared and reset for the massive flow of visitors , the turn around in this packed restaurant was phenomenal. No one seemed to be waiting long even the “Non Friday Fish Fry” takers! ! There was a manager controlling the “floor” with an expert eye and a personal microphone to the front desk, so professional and so friendly!
The restaurant is a clear favourite with locals and though some of the Southern style cooking on some dishes may not be to your taste, don’t be put off! The choice will give you something for everyone. Our daughter is a fan of the all day breakfast menu, eggs, sausage and “Mama’s Pancakes! ” with your own little pot of maple syrup, cute and tasty!
As it was Prom night on our last visit we had a stream of young teenagers popping in all dressed up to say “Hi” to their relates and friends who either worked at the restaurant or were eating there, in their ball gowns and white tux’s. Again a sign that it is a real locals haunt, and though obviously the tourists are starting to enjoy the Cracker Barrel experience, somehow you feel part of the “family”, not an outsider, which adds to experience!
We always enjoy a wander round the shop before we leave, some really different items can be found, though there is candy for the children too of course! Then, a nice relax in the rocking chairs on the porch watching the sun go down…. ummm I want to go again! !
Think I most definitely will!
Great food, great value…oh. . but just a note, no alcohol is served here.
