Ford Edge ‘Limited’ - Good choice - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Travelling
On my last trip to Florida I chose to use Alamo to supply my rental car for our 2 week stay and was able to select a Ford Edge Limited from the rental parking lot. With my wife and two teenage daughters luggage capacity is one of necessities that has to sit right at the top of my list, especially for the journeys to and from the airport. This vehicle’s boot (trunk) space does not disappoint and is capable of easily taking the 4 large suitcases and 4 large pieces of hand luggage that we had travelled with leaving the passenger cabin free of bags.
The Edge Limited is a well equipped and comfortable car thanks to a powerful V6 3. 5 litre silky smooth engine that delivers 285 BHP. The ride whilst comfortable maintains a firm and safe handling ride with quick precise steering that doesn’t loose at all- in fact it feels like many SUVs in this class. On the outside the Edge Limited has a classy road presence with a well designed use of chrome touches including chrome finished 22 inch alloy wheels.
Inside the vehicle benefits from very high spec creature comforts. This starts with the comfortable leather trimmed seats, which whilst get hot when parked in the Florida sun, deliver sumptuous comfort and support whilst driving, especially on the longer journeys. The steering wheel controls are fully integrated with many of the cars features including audio control and several of the cruise control features including the ability to set the gap between the vehicle in front of you. At the hub of the interior is a multi functional touch sensitive 7 inch LCD display. This includes the climate controlled air conditioning system which can be both manually and automatically configured at the touch of a button. Particularly nice is the dual zone feature that enables the passenger and driver to set differing temperatures for each side of the cabin.
Again in the hub system is a sophisticated parking assist mechanism that provides the usual audible warnings, but is also paired up to a rear reversing camera that looks directly back but takes in a view of the rear bumper. Coupled with colour coded distance control on the display this makes rearwards parking very easy, without even turning your gead.
From my daughters’ perspectives I am sure it is probably the in car stereo that won them over the most. This is a very sophisticated system that combines radio, Sirius, CD and excellent Bluetooth streaming from devices such as iPod and iPhone. USB connectivity is also available. The integration with an iPhone was excellent passing control over to the central system and even displaying the Cover Art and playing track names of the music. The sound is delivered through multiple high quality speakers located throughout the vehicle.
We really enjoyed this vehicle and will go out of our way to pick it again on a future visit.
