Florida does fine dining in a casual environment very well and this is perfect when you are on holiday.
You can find one such establishment is in Daytona and I think you may enjoy this place after a day trip to the beach. Daytona is only an hour or so from your Orlando area vacation villa.
Angell Phillips cafe has been running for 11 years and is in the Downtown area of Daytona so you could easily miss it unless you knew it was there.
Originally they only served breakfast and lunch but now they have lunch and dinner settings only.
They have live music every night and this can be jazz, soul, rock or country music. Check ahead if you have a particular style of music in mind.
My choice of starter is often crab cakes and they do them well here. The cakes are served with corn salsa and sundried tomatoes. Salsa a bit spicy for me. If you are not a sea food fan then there is a cheesy pasta and or garlicky chicken. If I were not having fish as a main course I might choose the chicken.
There are 2 meat, 4 chicken and 4 fish dishes on the main course menu.
The Key Lime Salmon is very appropriate to the holiday menu and a clean tasting dish. Greek sttuffed chicken is definitely NOT appropriate to your holiday mood but has to be tried. Its stuffing mix of mushroom, spinach and feta is very piquant and though feta is too acid for some tastes I love it.
Of course, there are a couple of steak dishes on offer (sirloin and fillet) One comes with onions and mushrooms and the other is coated with peppercorns.
All main courses come with a potato and a vegetable and included in the price is soup or a mixed salad.
Most times I cannot manage a dessert but if you do then there is a somewhat disappointing offering of cheesecake, chocolate cake, chocolate and peanut butter pie and tiramisu.
They offer a good range of specialist coffees here and that rounds off a meal perfectly. Chocolate coffee, sambuca and coffee, irish coffee (yum) and cafe espanol.
If you prefer to leave the beach for some lunch then you can choose from home made soup and a salad or maybe a sandwich and dessert.
You will notice that the menu is not huge; this is reassuring as how can a restaurant present a huge menu all freshly made (answer, they cannot! )
