Three Rivers State Park. - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Places to Visit

Three Rivers State Park is located in Sneads on Three Rivers Park Road off the Highway 90. The three rivers involved in the name are The Chatahoochee, The Flint and The Apalacholicola.

A dam was created as a result of which Lake Seminole was formed. This lake is an impressive 37000 acres and extends into Georgia. The Flint and Chatahoochee tip into the lake and as a result of this The Apalocholicola was formed.

Bicycling is a popular activity here and there are miles of paved roads to enjoy. If you prefer to traverse the park by water then you can rent a canoe for $12 a day. The canoes are made of aluminion and paddles and a life jacket are supplied.

We always like to take at least one trail when we do a State Park and my recommendation would be the one that starts atr the campground. This takes you on a pretty route along the banks of Lake Seminole. For those of you that are looking for something more challenging then take the trail that starts at the picnic area and leads you through hill country.

Next you could let the children loose on the good playground while you take a rest on one of the seats provided. You will now have worked up a healthy appetite so take advantage of the picnic area to eat your packed lunch.

In the lake you will not be surprised to see an alligator. It is often said that in Florida, every bit of water contains an alligator! Also often spotted are fox squirrels, bob white and white tail deer. Gopher tortoises make their home in the high pine land.

You will notice that many of the plants are those also found in The Appalachian Mountains, not surprising since the terrain is similar.

During the spring tulips create a white carpet of blooms and the dogwood trees are also in flower.

Some of the best freshwater fishing that Florida has to offer is to be found here. You will need a license and do observe the rules and regulations.

Three Rivers State Park costs only $2 a car to enter and is open every day of the year from 8. a. m. to sun down.

Near by parks include Edward Balls Wakulla Springs, Torreya, Florida Caverns and Lake Talquin. If you do get to this area of Florida then do put this natural park on your list. Here is the address
