While you are enjoying your side trip to Hollywood Beach, you will need to grab a couple of meals. Since you are in a beach side resort, why not eat on Broadwalk where you get a sea view to die for.
Jakes on the Beach is notable for the sharing dishes that allow you to try some different tastes. They also offer full meals and snacks.
Conch Fritter is $12, Calamari ($9) Crab Nacos ($14) cheese fries ($12) and the ubiquitous wings are $10)
Do you ever wonder where all the chicken wings eaten in Florida can possibly come from? They must breed multi winged chickens!
They serve craft beers here and there is live entertainment on friday, saturday and sunday afternoons and evenings (times vary, so check before your visit)
The pizza is great at Broadwalk Restaurant and Grill, try the pepperoni. Subs are well stuffed and the coffee is good too. I noticed that they served the huge slices of pizza as a takeaway option so could be a good idea if you cannot drag yourself away from the beach.
If you want somewhere with a lively atmosphere and very reasonably priced drinks, then head to Toucans Oceanside Bar and Grill. Happy Hour will keep you even happier. The Clam Chowder was good and also a clam in white wine concoction.
This seems to be where the locals tend to hang out so nice to mix with folks from the area.
Right next door is the chain Mexican restauranr called Mamacitas. Of course, there is no personal feel and the service is somewhat slow but if you fancy a little spice, this could hit the spot.
There are also a couple of overpriced and nasty
eating places on the beach that I have identified by their omission. Asking around when you are there can often be the best recommendation.
You do have to factor in that these are beach restaurants and you are not likely to get
plush seating areas or gourmet food. If that is your requirement, then head for the Downtown area
which has classier joints. For me, an ocean view is way more important that a bit of luxury.
